Janet Hordis

Janet Hordis (née Kebbe), of Moorestown, passed away on February 14, 2025, after a long illness. She was born February 18, 1934 in Philadelphia to the late Victor and Lucy (Miller) Kebbe. Jan was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Charles Hordis, with whom she shared a wonderful life until his passing in 2018. She was a devoted mother to Catherine Strayer, Jennifer Austin, Charles Hordis, and Robert Hordis (Victoria) and a cherished grandmother to Janet, Ezra, Nathanael, and Claire. She was the loving sister of the late Susan Gould. A graduate of the Abraham Lincoln High School who earned her degree in Advertising Art from the Philadelphia College of Art, Jan dedicated her life to creativity. Her career began at Fox Chase Cancer Center creating advertising and health related instructional art. After starting her family, she wanted to spend more time with her children and moved into freelance commercial art from home, inking newspaper ads for department stores, supermarkets and local businesses. Her later career included owning her own art gallery, Creek Road Artists in Mount Laurel which featured her own art as well as the art and crafts of other local artists. She painted many portraits of people, pets, and houses for clients throughout the region. When she wasn’t painting for clients, Jan spent happy hours volunteering at the Cinnaminson library creating posters and hangings for all occasions and fanciful displays in the children’s section. Art was a central part of her life, whether fine art, clothing design, or her commercial work. Jan was a “people person” who loved to be around others. Nothing made her happier than sharing a meal with friends or family at a local restaurant and she never missed an opportunity to do so. She enjoyed bowling, traveling with her husband, taking road trips with friends, and spending time at the shore or anywhere the open road would take her. An avid singer, Jan was a choir member of Christ Church in Riverton and later joined the Moorestown Singers Group where she made close friends. Mother, wife, friend – nothing made Jan happier than being in community with others. After a long battle with illness that kept her from doing what she loved, God has welcomed her home. She will be missed. Burial services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring City, Pennsylvania on Monday February 24th at 11:30 am.
