Sue J. Schaeffer

Sue Jolliffe Schaeffer, 83, passed away in her home in Williamsburg, VA on May 27th with her loving husband William Schaeffer by her side. Born May 18th, 1940, in Morgantown, WV to Kenneth and Belphine (Gurtis) Jolliffe, she was sister to Edward Jolliffe, (Indianapolis) and the late James Jolliffe. She is survived by her son, James Schaeffer (Christina) of Cherry Hill, NJ and daughter, Patricia Baechler (Christopher) of Medford, NJ. Her grandchildren, Jordyn Schaeffer, Kaila Carmone (Ryan), Connor Baechler, Molly Baechler, Nick Schaeffer, and Amanda Shiffler were her greatest joys, and she enjoyed spoiling them. Sue was overjoyed to meet her new great granddaughter, little Coco Carmone just a few weeks ago. She is also survived by loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Sue was raised amid the West Virginia University community where both her parents worked over the years. A “Country Roads” girl to the core, she loved her Mountaineers, and it was there that she met Bill (he’ll claim at the Sunnyside bar). After graduating with a degree in education she taught at Newburg High School. She and Bill married on August 25, 1962, and their lives soon expanded beyond the Appalachian Mountains. They moved 17 times in their sixty years of marriage, beginning with Oahu, Hawaii where Jim was born and Bill was deployed to Viet Nam with the Marine Corps. Patti was born in Beaufort, SC while they were stationed at Parris Island. From there Sue, always the resilient and loving wife and mother, maintained a happy and nurturing home for her family as Bill’s pharmaceutical career unfolded. Her most cherished memories were made in Flanders, NJ, Brussels, Belgium, Cherry Hill, NJ, London, England and finally Williamsburg, VA, building many lifelong friendships along the way. She was an accomplished and adventurous cook and generous shopper. She loved playing bridge with her girlfriends and hosting her grandkids “down the shore” in Sea Isle City. Sue was so grateful for her devoted friends and caregivers, Faye Duncan and Lynda Clark as she battled health issues for the last several years of her life. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Sue’s life on Sunday, June 25th beginning at 2:00pm at Givnish Funeral Home, 398 E Main St, Marlton, NJ 08053, where a Memorial Service will follow at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg, www.williamsburghospice.org.
