Such a loss. I'm heartbroken to hear that Al has passed, but I find comfort to know that he is with the Lord. I had only met him in the last 6 months, and worked with him occasionally, what an funny guy! I can honestly say, I thoroughly enjoyed our phones calls. He had a way for saying things as a matter of fact, and I enjoyed making him chuckle at himself. I looked forward to chatting with him over work stuff. Most recently, he spoke of his son and grandchildren in Texas, family here on the east coast, and his church. His passing is a great loss to many. I will miss working with him.

I knew Al for about 30 years. He came to work for Public Works at the Naval Shipyard in South Phila. as a Telephone Mechanic. He was teamed-up with me on many telephone installation jobs around the base, and often on jobs by himself. He was very good at his job, and very knowledgeable about telecommunication technology. His telephone system equipment backboards were like a work of art, with everything lined up and level, and all wiring/jumpers cut in neatly on the backboard. He took pride in what he accomplished, and had many letters of commendation from the various Navy Commands at the shipyard. Al made the move from Public Works, a few years after the shipyard closed, to NCTAMS LANT as a Telecommunications Technician and worked at NSA Philadelphia at Tabor Road preparing the telephone bill for the various Navy Commands at Phila. Naval Business Center (formerly known as Phila. Naval Shipyard). Later in my career, also working for NCTAMS LANT, and while located at the Naval Business Center in South Philadelphia I had many phone conversations and meetings with various Navy customers with Al in attendance, and he was always knowledgeable regarding the many billing questions and issues. I'll miss Al as I'm sure will many of his Navy co-workers.
