Lt. Thomas Lillagore, Jr,
I knew Mae through my service as a Cinnaminson Police Officer. The police officers all knew her as the "Bike Lady" riding and later pushing, her bicycle up and down the shoulder of Rt. 130 (usually in a dress). She was never a burden on the police department but we did receive our fair share of phone calls from concerned citizens.
One night, in a poorly lit area of Rt. 130, I didn't see her on her bike and almost struck her with my patrol car. I got out and told her she needed a light on her bike. She "strongly" disagreed with me. The next day I went to a local bike shop in Palmyra and got a flashing red light. I tracked her down and tried to put it on her bike. She was adamant about not letting me put it on. I told her its either a ticket or the light. She gave up let me install it. It lasted about two days and disappeared.
She was always polite and never would ask for help. I was happy to learn that Pastor John Doll of Asbury Methodist Church, and our police Chaplin, was able to find her a nice place to live in comfort in the last chapter of her life. RIP
