Alfonso DiBenedetto's Obituary
Alfonso DiBenedetto, a resident of Voorhees, departed this life on March 1, 2024.
His parents were Alfonso and Jane (Glasser) DiBenedetto. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Kristine (nee Owen), and his beloved sister Donna Couturie (Steven), his twin sister MaryLynn Bruno (Rocco), his brother Michael Di Benedetto, his sister Florence DiBenedetto, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born in Philadelphia on November 26, 1943, and raised in Medford Lakes where he was among the first graduating class of Holy Cross High School, 1961. He graduated from LaSalle University and taught at Bishop Eustace where he also coached football and wrestling. Al knew Kristine was the one, when he saw her walk into the Dolphin Bar where he worked during the summers. On 4th of July weekend, Kristine saved Al’s life by stopping a bad guy who attacked Al! They were married in Broomall, PA in 1971.
That same year, Al started working as Philadelphia Sales Representative for Gillette’s Paper Mate Division. With determination, long working hours on the road and in the air, and through several relocations, Al became Assistant to the President of the Paper Mate Division where he worked on many of Gillette’s Special Projects.
After a meteoric rise and ten years with Gillette, Al accepted the position as National Sales Manager with FESCO plastic housewares. In 1983, another opportunity was presented and accepted: the position of National Sales Manager of IRE Financial Corporation where Al worked with 12 Regional Managers marketing Public Real Estate Limited Partnerships, investing in commercial real estate soon to become known as BankAtlantic which led to fifteen successful and happy professional years living in Plantation, FL.
In 1997, Al and Kris relocated to New Jersey to care for his father’s sister, Aunt Chetty and her husband, Uncle Tony until their deaths. During this time, he spent time with his friends and their various carpeting businesses. This final relocation gave Al the opportunity to relax and enjoy good times with Kris in Atlantic City. Al was a dedicated husband, brother, uncle, and friend who shared his love of all things related to baseball, his positive outlook on life, and amazing life lessons’ stories with everyone.
