Allan J. Burke's Obituary
Allan J. Burke, of Edgewater Park, passed away at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County on November 3, 2017. Born and raised in Jersey City, he was 83 years old.
Allan graduated from St. John’s Parochial School in 1948, and from St. Peter’s Prep in 1952. He worked part time in his last two years of high school at Beck Shoe Store. Upon graduation, he worked for Dade Bros. Caven Point, Jersey City until they moved to Norfolk, VA. He then worked at Western Electric Corp in Kearny, NJ. Allan enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 5, 1953. He served in NJ, KY, TX, and LA. He was overseas in Panama, Germany, twice in Vietnam, and Thailand. He was awarded the CIB, 2 Bronze Stars, 3 Air Medals, 2 ARCOMS, and South Vietnam Medals. In March 1973 he was hired as a clerk for the US Postal Service in Trenton, NJ. After 22 years, he retired in January of 1995. Allan was a 37 year member of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085. He served on the Handicapped Children and American Committees, and donated 18.5 galllons of blood to the Red Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Loretta; his siblings, John (Mildred), Audrey (Edward), Loretta (Henry), and Eileen (John).
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Josefa Maria (nee Gonzales); his loving children, Maria E. and Damion (Tisa); and his grandchildren, Marc (Jade), Lisa Marie, and Christian Allan.
