Andrea Jeanne Hawkins' Obituary
Andrea J. Hawkins (Horrocks), 77, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 in Gastonia, N.C. She is survived by her children Lisa Wong (Hawkins), Becky Hawkins, and Jonathan Hawkins; her grandchildren Joshua Wong and Maxwell Hawkins; and her remaining siblings Neil Horrocks and Joan Morales (Horrocks).
Many things could be written about Andrea, as she experienced many changes during her lifetime that seemed to alter her destiny. But one thing is for sure – she harbored great love for her children and her grandchildren. And she often professed her love of Christ.
Andrea was born on June 5, 1947 to Earle and Violet Horrocks and grew up not far from Philadelphia, PA. She resided in Philly most of her adult life. She graduated from Springfield High School and attended Columbia Bible College. In her youth, Andrea enjoyed playing the flute, visiting with family, and going to church. She was blessed to worship at Faith Community Church, Cedar Grove Church, Berachah, and Calvary Chapel. She moved to North Carolina at the suggestion of her older sister in the early 2000’s and although it was her desire to return to Philadelphia to be closer to her children and grandchildren, this dream never came to fruition.
As she aged, Andrea’s new hobby became collecting dolls - which she became quite adept at. She envisioned creating a business and including tiny Bibles or cards with Bible verses with each purchase. Try as she might, the business never happened (although the collection continued to grow).
Andrea would often describe herself as a “melancholy spirit”, but she had joy within her and her smile was beautiful. We look forward to seeing that smile again. And we know she is rejoicing in Heaven with those who have gone before her.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Andrea’s life on Saturday July 13th starting 12:00pm at Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 E. Main St, followed by her services 1:30pm. Light lunch will be available and served during the visitation. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, a donation would be greatly appreciated for the Go Fund Me page that has been set up for Andrea’s daughter, Becky Hawkins, as she has lost both her place to live and her job in North Carolina, and has been urgently relocated, for the time being, to New Jersey: https://gofund.me/535623e1
