If I were to describe Mrs. Canto with one word, I would use the word "SELFLESS". Mrs. Canto prioritized God and her family above everything else. Like a mama bear, she protected and supported her children and grandchild, Jaclyn. I have personally known Mrs. Canto and her family since my own pre-school age. My memories of Mr. and Mrs. Canto are so vivid. I can remember sitting at their kitchen table, watching Mrs. Canto make homemade pasta or a pie. Mr. Canto would give me sound very and very needed advice when I was a teenager. I was fortunate to vacation with Mrs. Canto, Liz, Jaclyn, Maria and Glen in OCNJ. Mrs. Canto never went to the beach, but she stayed at the house and made sure we were all fed. The homemade pizza and plates of pasta were lined up on the counter for all to share. I sat by Mrs. Canto's side when Jaclyn was born. I am tearing as I write this tribute, as she will be missed. And Mrs. Canto showed my own children so much love when Liz watched them for me. Jake and Jillian thought of Mrs. Canto as a 3rd Grandmother. About 6 months ago, I called Mrs. Canto to say hello. It had been a while since I had seen her at mass and wanted to ask her for her pizza sauce recipe, which she reminded me was not her recipe, but belonged to her sister. She assured me that Marie has all of the recipes. The last time I saw Mrs. Canto was December 2019 at my mother's funeral. She was what I called a young 90 year old. We cannot believe she has passed. Although she was 90 years old, in my opinion her life was cut short, as I believe like my Dad she would have fought to live to 100. The Canto Family and the Scafidi Family have suffered great loss within the past 6 months. This will bond us forever and we will help each other through these difficult times. My only solace is that Mrs. Canto is with Mr. Canto. Life on earth as we know it is our darkness, the light of the world will be found when we are in Heaven. Mrs. Canto is a true ANGEL.
