Ann C. North's Obituary
Ann Carey North, Age 87, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday afternoon, December 12, 2014 at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. Ann was born on June 6, 1927. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Wilmington Friends School. She also attended East Stroudsburg State University. She was an athlete, playing field hockey and basketball in high school, a renaissance woman of her time. Her competitive nature and love of sports was a gift that has been passed down to her children and grandchildren.
In 1962 Anne married Louis A. North and they moved to Moorestown, N.J. Moorestown became their home for the next 52 years. Ann was the women’s club champion at the Moorestown Field Club six times over four decades. She had four holes in one! Golf and skiing were her passions. Austria was one of her favorite destinations; skiing in Europe with Louis and friends were some of her fondest memories.
Ann was also a passionate investor in the stock market. Some might even call her a wizard!
Ann’s outgoing, friendly, good nature is what will be most missed by her friends and family. Ann was thoughtful and generous. She had more energy than most twenty year olds. She loved conversing with people. Ann was a collector of all things, including antiques, and she enjoyed researching their history.
Ann was an only child. She was dedicated to her parents and missed her mother very much after her mother died at the age of 57. After Ann’s mother’s death, Ann’s father, Claude Henry Carey, lived with Ann's family in Moorestown for twenty years.
Ann is survived by her three children, Sally Hartman of Moorestown, N.J., Stan Druckenmiller of New York, New York, and Helen Skelly of Lyme, NH. and her three step-sons, Louis, Robert and Thomas North. Ann has 8 grandchildren, David and Katie Skelly, Jack, Robert and Anne Hartman and Sarah, Hannah and Tess Druckenmiller.
Ann's last words before she died were "I have a wonderful family". Ann will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A celebration of Ann’s life will held at the Moorestown Field Club on Saturday, December 20, from 12:00 until 3:00. Friends and family are invited.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Jersey Food Bank.
