Arnold Dorkin's Obituary
Arnold Roy Dorkin, ?Arnie?, 86, of Cinnaminson, NJ passed away peacefully at home with his family, cats, and dog at his side. Dear husband of Jeanne, nee Freehafer, loving father to Helene Levin (Robert), Judith Bonocore (Robert), David Dorkin (Diane) and the late Clyde Eric Dorkin, loving ?Pappy? and Granddad to Ross and Hannah Levin and DJ Ranoia.
Arnold was born in Stamford, CT, and moved to Camden at age 5. A 1944 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he was the star pitcher of the Prexys. He continued pitching for NYU. He was forever grateful to his coach and friend Al Bass, for his prowess on the pitcher?s mound.
After college, Arnold took over the family business as a confectionary manufacturer, running The Mumsey Candy Company in Camden, NJ, delighting children of all ages with his delicious lollipops.
He raised his family with wife Jeanne in Cinnaminson, and was a 38-year member of the Riverton Country Club, enjoying many good (and not so good) rounds of golf with best friend Dr. Rudy Camishion. He was also a long-time member and former treasurer for the NJ Pine Barons Radio Control Club, flying his model airplanes and enjoying the camaraderie of his friends there.
He contributed his time and tender loving touch to animals in need as he and wife Jeanne co-created with their dear friends, Frank and Dee Jaggard and the late Barbara and Ed Smyth, Animal Placement Service, a non-profit animal association to benefit stray and abandoned animals. Several of these animals had medical problems and were unable to be placed, and became part of the ?Dorkin menagerie? as beloved pets, some of which remain with Jeanne today.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Shore Animal League America, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050; and Compassionate Care Hospice, 600 Highland Avenue, Suite 624, Westampton, NJ 08060.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Arnie?s Memorial service at Snover/Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 12:30 PM. To share your fondest memories and condolences with the family, please visit www.snovergivnish.com.
