Audrey Mayes' Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Grama, Audrey Mayes, who left us peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of 91.
Audrey was born on March 20, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA. She lived a long and beautiful life centered on family and friends. As a devoted mother and proud Grama she gave her heart completely to those she loved.
She is survived by her children: William Mayes, Scott Mayes (Linda), Dottie McKenzie (John), and Lisa Childs (Jim). Audrey was predeceased by her sons Dr. James Mayes II (Susan) and Wayne Edmondson. She is also survived by her siblings: William Horswood (Sylvia) and Linda Wildgust (Jim).
Audrey was a loving grandmother to Audrey Herr (Mike), Dana LeMunyon (Tom), Teresa LeMunyon, Johnny LeMunyon (Glendy), Lauren Tonzelli (Tony), Jimmy Childs, Scott Mayes Jr. (Lex), Kevin Mayes (Lizzy), and Brian Mayes, and was predeceased by her grandson Jimmy Mayes III.
She was also the proud great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and cherished by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Audrey had a warm, witty spirit. She loved the simple joys in life — camping, family
gatherings, painting, and photography — and was excellent at crafts and loved to write poetry. She had a gift for lifting people’s spirits and making everyone feel like part of the family.
Though our hearts are broken, we are endlessly grateful for her 91 years and all the joy,
love, and laughter she gave so freely. Her legacy will live on in each of us.
A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, with visitation at
11:00 AM and a prayer service at 11:30 AM at Central Baptist Church, 514 Maple Ave,
Palmyra, NJ. Friends and family are welcome to join us in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey’s memory to the Central Baptist Church.
