Barbara T. McGovern's Obituary
Barbara T. McGovern (nee Levins) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Born in Philadelphia to Henry and Anna Levins, Barbara was 86 years old. She was a resident of Cinnaminson for the last 25 years and formerly lived in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. Beloved wife of 65 years to John S. McGovern Sr., loving mother of John S. (Lyn) McGovern Jr, Barbara Anne (George) Turano, Terrence F. (Patricia Clark) McGovern, Mary G. McGovern, David M. (Darlene) McGovern, and Edward J. McGovern. Cherished Grandmother of Rachel (Kent) Scriven, Gabrielle (Jamie) Purvis, Kellyn (Chris) Capodagli, Vincent Turano, John McGovern, Christian McGovern, Lauren McGovern, Seamus McGovern, Avery McGovern, and Mason McGovern
Great-grandmother of Kasen Capodagli, Samuel Capodagli, and Layla Scriven
Sister of John Levins (Marilyn). Also survived by her dear cousins Gerard McGovern, and James McGovern (Denise), as well as, Sister-in-Law Joan Ewing and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Barbara was employed as an administrative assistant for the Berwind Corporation in Philadelphia for many years until her retirement.
Barbara was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School – Class of 1954. She enjoyed creating many ceramics figurines for her family and friends, especially Nativity Scenes. Many blankets were crocheted and personalized artwork with needlepoint were created, with love. In the summertime, she loved tending to her roses and peonies in her garden. Barbara also loved creating memories with her brother John and his family at the Jersey shore. She loved reading the latest novels from her favorite authors James Patterson, Lisa Scottoline, and Patricia Cornwell. She loved taking care of her fur babies, especially her Collies and Shelties. On New Year’s Day, Barbara could be found strutting down Broad Street or Alleghany Avenue alongside of her dear cousin Jerry and their beloved Polish American String Band.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, February 27th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, February 28th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North.
Barbara’s Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church 103 4th Street Riverton.
Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle/NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
