Bernadette "Bernie" Heljenek's Obituary
Bernadette “Bernie” Heljenek (nee Skiba), of Merchantville, passed away on July 16, 2015. She was 66 years old.
Bernie was a teacher’s aide for 20 years at St. Bartholemew’s in Philadelphia, and also a cub scout pack leader for 10 years. She always gave of herself to others, especially the elderly.
Bernie was the beloved wife of John Heljenek for 46 years. Loving mother of Chris Heljenek (Gina) of Cherry Hill and John Heljenek of Merchantville. Dear grandmother of Kaliegh and Ashton. Loving daughter of Walter Skiba and the late Anna Skiba. Dear sister of Doreen McGarvey (Phillip), Robert Skiba (Cathy) and the late Richard Skiba. Cherished aunt to Michelle Armstrong and Michelle O’Donnell. Bernie is also survived by many other loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bernie’s life celebration at Inglesby/Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 E. Main, on Monday evening from 7pm – 9 pm, and Tuesday morning from 8:30am – 9:30am. Her funeral Mass will follow at 10 am at St. Peter’s Parish in Merchantville, 43 West Maple Ave. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernadette’s name may be made to the Animal Welfare Association of Gibbsboro, www.awanj.org, or to the Camden County Companions Animal Rescue, www.camdencompanions.org, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
