Betty Alspach's Obituary
Elsie Elizabeth “Betty” Alspach (nee Tolbert), passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas and Elsie (nee Grindrod) Tolbert, she was 102 years old.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late Mark D. Alspach; loving mother of Thomas Alspach and his wife Catherine; Charlotte Alspach, MD and her husband Peter Delaney; Mark D. Alspach, Jr. and his wife Nancy; Elizabeth “Beth” (nee Alspach) Karsten (deceased) and her husband Scott Karsten (deceased); cherished grandmother of Julia Karsten; dear brother of Thomas Tolbert (deceased).
Betty was a resident of Merchantville, New Jersey. After her marriage, she moved to Moorestown and Avalon, New Jersey, where she resided for most of her life before moving to Easton, Maryland in the last years of her life. She was a graduate of Ursinus College where she received a degree in Chemistry and worked as a chemist at the Philadelphia Naval Yard alongside renowned author Isaac Asimov during World War II. After her marriage, Betty and Mark D. Alspach raised four children, putting them all through college and most through graduate school. Betty also was fond of dogs, most of which came to her as strays from Strawbridge Lake where people would abandon them. Betty had many friends and was active in the Woman’s Club. She was an apt Bridge player and was a good partner for her husband. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown. She loved spending summers in Avalon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, December 14th at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Road at 1:00 PM.
