C. Elaine Travis' Obituary
C. Elaine Travis, 86, a proud and cherished resident of Delran, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 2, 1938, in Richwood, WV, to George and Sally Jackson, Elaine led a life full of love, service, and community spirit.
Elaine was the devoted wife of 65 years to the late C. Neal Travis, who passed away in 2023. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. She was the beloved mother of Cyndi Hyland (Dave), Judy Karpen (Dan), and David Travis (Jen). A doting grandmother, she leaves behind Danielle Carlotto (Eric), Kristen Brahler (Dan), Dana Skidmore (Adam), Samantha Stellwag (Josh), Travis Karpen, Nicole, Tyler, and Sarah Travis. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Jake, Luke, and Zach Carlotto; Grace and Elaina Brahler; Georgia Skidmore; and Rena, Jackson, and Caroline Stellwag. Elaine is survived by her brother, Norman Jackson, and predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Charles. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Elaine grew up in West Virginia and attended Richwood High School where she was a member of the Richwood Lumberjacks girls’ basketball team. She was also a proud member of the marching band, playing the trumpet. It was in Richwood where she met her lifelong love, Neal Travis. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 21, 2022 before Neal’s passing. After moving to Delran in 1962, she proudly raised her family and became an integral part of the community. Elaine was actively involved in the PTA, various local initiatives, and she volunteered with the Salvation Army, worked part-time at Gimbels, and dedicated time as a Candy Striper at Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital.
Elaine was an avid sports fan and athlete. You could always find Elaine at her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s athletic events. She was a very proud mom, grandmom, and great-grandmom of all their achievements and could always be seen cheering on the sidelines. One of her proudest moments was being inducted into the Delran High School Hall of Fame!
Some of Elaine’s hobbies were playing softball for the Delran Softball Women’s League, participating in bowling leagues with many of her and Neal’s friends, and could always find her shooting hoops in the backyard with her children and their friends. She belonged to two women’s church groups called the Golden Girls and First Mondays. Her and her neighborhood friends formed a card club and enjoyed playing Michigan Rummy. Sunday dinners revolved around the entire family and afterwards, you could always find her playing cards or board games, she was VERY competitive.
Elaine’s kindness, dedication, love, and selflessness touched all who knew her. Everyone called her grandmom.
