Camille Lazovitz's Obituary
Camille Bruce Lazovitz, 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 5 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Though a longtime resident of Medford, New Jersey, she was born and raised in New York City. Camille attended Bayside High School in Queens and Hunter College in Manhattan before earning her Masters in Nursing at New York Medical College.
Camille lived her life in service of her family: her husband David and their two children, Andrew and Eve, as well as her parents, in-laws, and extended family. She devoted herself to their happiness and success, creating a home filled with warmth, love, and an incredible degree of organization. She volunteered at her children’s schools, carpooled to tennis matches and music lessons, managed the family calendar, helped with homework, pampered the family dogs, cared for her aging parents, and more. She consistently played the supporting role for those around her and did it without a second thought.
Camille was known for her gentleness, her kindness, her devotion to family and friends. However, her gentle demeanor belied a steely determination. At 32 and as the mother of two young children, she battled Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She defied the doctors’ predictions, fighting until remission came, demonstrating an untold well of strength and persistence.
Camille is remembered for her tidy sweater sets, the tasteful jewelry that her husband lavished upon her, and her enormous collection of handbags. She held onto the Polish that her parents and grandparents taught her as a child and relished the opportunity to learn all that she could about her family’s history and culture. She loved reading, vacationing with her family, listening to classical music, and caring for others: her family, her friends, her pets, her patients. Alzheimer’s slowly took much of this from her, but those who know her well remember the person she was before the disease: her strength, her goodness, her tireless support of all who loved her.
Camille is preceded in death by her husband, David A. Lazovitz, M.D., her parents, Edward and Sophia Bruce, and her grandson, Ryan Lazovitz. She is survived by her son Andrew of Medford, New Jersey; her daughter Eve of New Orleans, Louisiana; her daughter-in-law Amy; her three grandchildren, Michael, Sofia, and Ruby; and her brothers, Thomas and Henry.
Camille’s family will welcome friends and relatives at the Givnish Funeral Home in Marlton, New Jersey on Tuesday, March 12 starting at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601) or the American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 6704
Hagerstown, MD 21741).
