Caroline R. Shontz's Obituary
Caroline R. Shontz (nee Windfelder), of Cinnaminson, formerly of Delran, passed away peacefully at her home on May 20, 2021. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Andrew and Caroline Windfelder, she was 81 years old.
Caroline was the beloved wife of Charles T. Shontz for 59 years; loving mother of Karen Hammon (Scott), C. Daniel Shontz, and T. Scott Shontz (Kiki); cherished grandmother (“Gigi”) of Kara, Kelly, Hannah, Lily, Brianna, Jaden, Zachary, and the late Krystyna Caroline; dear sister of Dolores Persic and Timothy Windfelder. As the proud matriarch, she was happiest when surrounded by her family.
She graduated from Palmyra High School (class of 1957), Saint Francis School of Nursing (class of 1960) and earned a BA from Glassboro State College (class of 1979). First employed by Zurbrugg Hospital (Riverside, NJ) as an Operating Room Nurse, she retired from the Delran school system where she loved serving as the nurse for the Cambridge and Millbridge schools. While she remained committed to lifelong learning, she was steadfast in believing that laughter was always the best medicine.
Until her passing, she remained devoted to the Church serving as; a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, a lector at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Requiem Choir and, a weekly visitor to the adoration chapel of Holy Name.
In her free time, she loved being in the sun. She was often seen dipping her toes in the ocean, strolling the Ocean City boardwalk or bobbing in the pool with her friends at the Riverdel Swim Club.
Always putting the concerns of others before her own, Gigi played a special and unique role in the life of everyone she touched. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Services for Carol will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Church with a private interment at St Peters Mausoleum. Please visit www.Givnish.com for updated information.
