Carolyn E. O'Callaghan's Obituary
Carolyn E. O’Callaghan (nee Happ), 83, of Egg Harbor Twp., N.J., passed away April 28 of complications from Coronavirus.
She was born Nov. 16, 1937, to Joseph G. and Edith P. Happ in Philadelphia, Pa. Carolyn went through primary grades in the Immaculate Conception Parish School in Germantown and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in the city’s Olney section. In 1955, she was married to James P. O’Callaghan, also of Philadelphia, where the couple lived prior to relocating in South Jersey -- first to Willingboro, then Cinnaminson and finally to Egg Harbor Twp.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by her daughter Karen Vidovich (Rob) of Shamong Twp., N.J.; son James P. O’Callaghan Jr. (Terry) of Pennsauken, N.J.; granddaughters Michelle Vidovich of Shamong; Rachel Vidovich of Williamstown, N.J. and Megan O’Callaghan of Baltimore, Md.; great-grandson RJ of Shamong; her sister Anna Marie Blank (Jere) of Pinehurst, N.C. and brother Joe Happ (Kathleen Newton) of Sacramento, Calif.
Carolyn worked in the insurance industry in South Jersey for 40 years as a claims adjuster and later as a mediator. She did volunteer work teaching English as second language and in the court system as a mediator in the civil division.
Carolyn never shied away from discussing any topic. She always told you her opinion whether it was welcome or not. Carolyn devoted many enjoyable hours reading and perfecting her leisure time passion of needlepoint and knitting.
She lived her life in love and service to her family whom she adored beyond measure. Carolyn’s happy place was Ocean City N.J. where she spent many summers ever since she was a child. She loved sitting on the beach for hours, walking the boards and getting a sundae at Kessle’s.
Due to current public health restrictions, interment was private. A Mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
