Long Time Burlington County Resident
Catherine B. "Kitty" Shaffer 102 years old, (nee Born) Kitty was born October 6, 1913 in Riverton, NJ to loving parents Harmer & Clara Born. She lived 100 years in Burlington County; Riverton, Palmyra, Medford Lakes and Cinnaminson. Kitty graduated Palmyra High School Class of 1932 and was the last surviving member of that class. In 1934 she married Harry F. "Bub" Shaffer, they were married for 67 years. Kitty was a full time homemaker all her life. She was the last surviving charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Palmyra of which she was a member for 78 years. The last 2 years of her life she lived at Juniper Village Personal Care in Mount Joy, PA where her granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Main, is Director of Community Relations. The family would like to thank the staff at Juniper Village Personal Care for the help, love and kindness she received the last 2 years of her life. Kitty is survived by her son Fred Shaffer and his wife Arlene, granddaughter Mary Elizabeth (Deric) Main, grandson Frank (Celinda) Welsh and 4 great grandchildren: Gunnar and Sadie Main and Alena and Frankie Welsh. She is also survived by nieces Kay Wallace and Bethann Volpe. Kitty went home to God on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Her Life Celebration will be Saturday, April 23, 2016. Visiting hour 9:30 -10:30 a.m., her Memorial Service will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church 617 Morgan Ave. Palmyra, NJ 08065.
The Shaffer family also would like to acknowledge the Masonic Village Hospice, for the care that they provided for Kitty in her final days.
