Charles "Chas" A. Keith III's Obituary
On April 3rd, at the age of 68, Charles A. Keith III, affectionately known as Chas, Dad & Pop, departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories.
Chas, born in 1956 to Charles A. Keith Jr. and Ellen Fox, was the eldest among his siblings, Michael, Katie, Meg, Jimmy, Stephen, and Jennie. Additionally, he was a caring big brother to Siggi (Karen) Villari and his late brother-in-law Billy. Chas cherished his late parents-in-law, William S. Villari Sr. and Inga "Lilla" Villari, holding them in the highest regard.
Chas was an incredible husband to his best friend Eleanor. His journey with his beloved wife spanned over five decades, a testament to a love story that began in childhood. Their souls intertwined when Eleanor was just 12 and Chas 14, and from that moment, their bond only strengthened. From telephone calls in middle school to their marriage of 45 years, their love was a beacon of hope and admiration for all who witnessed it. Whether they were strolling hand in hand on the streets of New York City, sitting with their feet in OCNJ sand, sailing on endless cruises, or simply sharing quiet dinners on their bedroom deck, their love was a symphony of affection and companionship.
Graduating from Riverside High School and furthering his education at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Chas earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. His passion for photography, evident in his senior thesis of Philadelphia's streets, became a hallmark of his legacy and those pictures are hung with pride in his children’s homes.
As a father, Chas's devotion was unmatched. He served as an unwavering pillar of strength and wisdom for his children, Chas (Maggie) Keith, Shawn Keith, and Jaclyn (Raymond) Olah. More than just a provider, he was their greatest advocate, offering steadfast support and guidance through every triumph and challenge life presented.
Their beautiful family home, meticulously designed and built by Chas, became a sanctuary of love and laughter, where every corner held cherished memories. He also had a special knack for holiday decorations that transformed their home into a magical haven, especially during Christmas, where it glowed like a gingerbread house come to life.
Chas's involvement in his children's extracurricular activities knew no bounds. From coaching their sports teams to capturing every precious moment with his camera, his presence was a constant source of inspiration and encouragement.
His career as a Photographer & Sales Rep for Lifetouch was more than a job; it was a canvas for his passion. His influence extended far beyond the confines of his profession, touching the lives of countless students and advisors with his dedication and artistry.
Chas also had a profound love for music which he joyfully shared with his loved ones. Meeting legendary icons like David Bowie and Alice Cooper was a testament to his deep connection with the music world. Chas introduced his children and brother-in-law Siggi to the enchantment of their first live concerts and etched his favorite melodies into the fabric of countless memories. His tradition of taking his grandson RJ to concerts every summer echoed his enduring spirit and the bonds he held dear.
Chas's absolute greatest joy in life came from his role as "Pop" to his grandchildren RJ, Lilla, Kaylee, CJ, and Scarlett. Pop was their adventurous spirit, their master builder of treehouses, their fearless companion on boogie boards, their willing participant in wearing hair bows, and their ever-reliable chauffeur to any destination. Whether on the sidelines or in the stands, his presence was a constant source of comfort and encouragement. His grandkids' laughter filled his heart with boundless joy, and he was their steadfast supporter, attending every game, recital, and performance with immense pride and love.
Chas's kindness, generosity, and love for his family was unparalleled. He was the go-to person for anyone in need, always ready to lend a helping hand. Pop could mend anything, from scraped knees to household repairs. Well, anything except that stubborn microwave.
Chas's impact will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Though his absence creates an irreplaceable void in his family, they are committed to honoring his memory by upholding his strong family values and saving him a glass of Boost every Eagles Sunday. They will emulate his unwavering presence, showing up for each other just as he always did for each of them. As David Bowie eloquently expressed, "There's a starman waiting in the sky. He's told us not to blow it 'cause he knows it's all worthwhile."
Please join us as we come together to celebrate the life of Chas on Tuesday, April 9th, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at Resurrection Parish, 260 Conrow Road, Delran, NJ. A mass will immediately follow the gathering. Interment in Lakeview Memorial Park.
