Charles Eugene Rittenburg Sr.'s Obituary
Charles E. Rittenburg, Sr., age 75, known as Chuck, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at his residence in Voorhees, NJ. Charles was born in Compton, California, and at the age of ten moved to East Cleveland, Ohio. An excellent student and athlete, he was awarded an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Upon graduation in 1973, Charles was married to his wife of fifty-two years, Jane T. Carmody of Washingtonville, NY, and was stationed in West Germany, first as a tank platoon commander, and later in Military Intelligence. In 1978, he returned to the United States and continued serving in the active Army until 1985. After his time on active duty, Rittenburg continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves, where he achieved the rank of Major, and in civilian life, with a second career in military defense contracting, first in the Los Angeles area and later in New Jersey, where he retired from Lockheed Martin in 2012. After retirement, Charles lived briefly in Arizona and Vermont, returning to Marlton in 2023. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Jane, his parents, Eugene S. and Marianne Rittenburg, and his sister, Elizabeth Roberts. He is survived by his daughters Julie Rittenburg of Marlton, Elizabeth Filip of Mt. Laurel, and Rebecca Richardson of Marlton; by his son Charles Rittenburg, Jr. of Essex Junction, Vermont; sons-in-law Matthew Filip and Steve Richardson, daughter-in-law Kari Rittenburg, and dearly loved, adopted daughter Maria Louisa Figueiredo Quelhas (Isa) of Brazil. Charles is also survived by his grandchildren: David, Luke, Jonathan, and Margaret Filip of Mt. Laurel; Andrew and Katherine Richardson of Marlton; and James and Ryan Rittenburg of Essex Junction, Vermont; his brothers Thomas Rittenburg of Genoa, Nevada, and William Rittenburg of Palmdale, California, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9:30 am on Tuesday, January 13th, at the Givnish Funeral Home, 398 E. Main Street, Marlton, New Jersey, with interment to follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey.
