Christopher C. Rutter Sr.'s Obituary
Christopher C. Rutter, Sr. passed away peacefully on October 13, 2015 at his residence in Willingboro surrounded by his family. Chris was a resident of Willingboro since 1960.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII as an amphibious engineer with the 203rd Engineer Combat Battalion. On D-Day, Chris landed at Dog Green Sector, Omaha Beach, Normandy. He took part in the war campaigns in Northern France, the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland and Central Europe.
He was a former member of the Oaklyn Fire Company No.1 as Assistant Chief. In 1961, Chris joined the Willingboro Volunteer Fire Company, serving in the capacity of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Fire Commissioner and Captain of the Fire Police, and earned life member status. He was a volunteer firefighter for almost fifty years.
Chris was employed as a first class industrial maintenance mechanic at Hercules Inc, Burlington Township for 32 years, retiring in 1985.
Chris was an avid Phillies fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known in the family as Mr. Fix-it.
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy E. Rutter.
Loving father of Christopher C. Rutter, Jr. (LoAnn) and Dorothy Rutter Shelmet (the late Frank “Bud” Shelmet).
Devoted grandfather to Lindsey Rutter, Kelly (Greg) Borger and Kyle Rutter.
Brother of Margaret Stapleford and the late Warren Rutter.
Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law: Frances Miersch and Mary Kerley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Chris’ Life Celebration and viewing Monday Eve 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 9-10 a.m. at Snover/Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North. His Funeral Mass will follow 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church 11 S. Sunset Road Willingboro, NJ 08046.
Interment at NJ Veteran’s Cemetery.
