Donald Martin's Obituary
Donald Reginald, 97, of Riverton, New Jersey, on June 27, 2016.
Donald was born on December 10, 1918 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Emily Wagner Martin and John B. Martin. Donald served proudly as Major in the USAF during WWII where he was Flight Commander, piloting a B-24 Bomber in the 704 Bomb Squadron of the 446th Bomb Group, flying 30 combat missions over enemy-held Europe. He received an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, one Oak Leaf Cluster for extraordinary achievement, and 3 Battle Stars for heroic action and meritorious service.
He took the invaluable lessons he learned from his military service and continued on to become a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, leading a life in which no problem was too large to tackle and no wish too large to fulfill. He worked, for many years, in concrete construction and at 97 was still thrilled by the site of newly poured concrete.
He also served on the council of Palmyra Borough for many years.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elaine Werner Martin, his loving children, Bruce Martin (Sharon), Eric Martin and Kristine Martin McGovern, his sister Virginia Doris King, and his grandchildren Ceara, Callie and Cole Martin.
Memorial service to be held at the Calvary Presbyterian Church on 4th St. & Lippincott Ave.in Riverton, NJ on Thursday, July 7th at 1:00 PM.
Burial Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher House at www.fisherhouse.org in his memory.
