Dorothy J. O'Connor's Obituary
Dorothy Kievitt O'Connor, 90, of Marlton passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Frank and Eugenia Kievitt. She was born in Passaic, N.J. on December 22,1932. Dorothy was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and Berkeley Secretarial School.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur B. O'Connor and a brother, Edward Kievitt of Fairport NY. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen (David) Rosenzweig of Manahawkin, Peggy (Miles) Nelson of Audubon, and Cheryl (Jonathan) Parker of Long Beach Island; seven grandchildren, Lisa (John) Mayo of Hanover PA, Kelly (Mark) Kruzel of Madison, Emily (Demmy) Adebiyi of Hawthorne, Alex Nelson of Audubon, Morgan Parker of Hoboken, Jameson Parker of East Rutherford, and Jesse (Beth) Nelson of Mickleton; three great grandchildren, Rio and Cairo Adebiyi and Brielle Kruzel; many nieces and nephews, dear sister-in-laws and close friends.
Dorothy started her career as Executive Secretary for the first National City Bank of NY. After getting married, she became a stay-at-home mom and raised her three girls. Once her baby, Cheryl, was in school, she returned to the workforce as an Office Manager for two medical offices, as well as an Executive Secretary with First Fidelity Bank.
Dorothy was known for her fashion sense and love of shopping. She always had to look her best. Even at the age of 90, she made sure her make-up was on, her nails were done, the jewelry was perfect and her wig looked good. She insisted on wearing high heels (to the dismay of her daughters). She was also an animal lover. She especially loved dogs, both large and small. Labs, Goldens and Yorkies were her favorites. She was always sending donations and dropping off supplies to the local shelters.
Dorothy lived most of her married life in Willingboro, NJ where she and Art raised their family. She was a devout parishioner of Corpus Christi Church for over 35 years. In 1995 they retired to Spring Hill in Florida where they lived for the next 23 years before returning to Marlton to be near family.
