Dorothy Gabriella Tinney's Obituary
Dorothy Gabriella Tinney (nee Gerety), of Delran, NJ, was called home to God at the age of 83 on October 17, 2021, with her family by her side.
She was born the oldest of two children on March 24, 1938, to the late Edward J. and Dorothy I. (O’Connor) Gerety Sr. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Edward J. Gerety Jr.
Dorothy was a graduate of Pierce Junior College in Philadelphia. She started her career as an executive assistant to the president at International Paper Company. She was the loving wife of Edward J. Tinney, Jr. for 59 years. Together they shared a blessed life honoring their faith in God and celebrating a deep love of family and the joys of visiting Ocean City, Ventnor, and Barnegat Light, NJ. Salt air and summer breezes always brought out the fondest memories of her childhood and especially of her daughters and grandchildren.
She was the beloved mother of Constance A. Lees (David E.) and Colleen M. Tobin (the late Patrick). Dorothy was the cherished "Grandmom" and "Mom-Mom" to her six grandchildren, Connor, Kaitlyn, and Brady Lees; and Madelyn, Charlotte, and Elizabeth Tobin. Her grandchildren filled her heart with pride and she treasured every moment together.
Dorothy was an active volunteer at Holy Name Church and her local community. Her creative talents were showcased through her successful local art consignment shops "Crafter's Crossing" in Merchantville and Moorestown, NJ which she opened with two close friends. As a retiring business owner, she then followed her passion and love of flowers and joined Moorestown Flower Shop. Her famous homemade ice tea, Christmas cookies and blueberry muffins were always a hit on Westover Drive. Her beautiful smile, love of life and selfless giving to others touched us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish Funeral Home of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 N., on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 9 am to 10:15 am. A Mass and Burial will begin at 11 am at Resurrection Parish, Church of the Holy Name, 260 Conrow Road, Delran.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to Saint Margaret’s School (in honor of a new playground and butterfly garden for the school) at 773 3rd Street, Woodbury, NJ 08097.
