Edward M. Groody's Obituary
Edward “Ted” Groody, of Moorestown, NJ, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 21, 2024. He was 92 years old.
Beloved husband of 67 years to Eileen (McMahon); devoted father to Robert (Michele), Joseph, Theresa, Michael (Kathy), and Maureen; a “peachy” grandfather to Carolyn (Mike), Alexandra (PJ), Will (Bernae), Stephanie (Zak), Michael (Cassie), Diana (Mark), J.T., Patrice, Sean, Michael, Christian, Camille, and Emily; great grandfather to Grant; a dear brother to Elizabeth Ann Barnes of West Chester, PA, and the proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ted is a proud graduate of LaSalle College High School and LaSalle University. He also served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He dedicated his entire career to RMI, serving as the Director of Materials for over 40 years.
A devout Catholic, he found the love of his life, Eileen, through their shared involvement in the CYO that blossomed into a lifelong relationship with the church.
In his early years, Ted was an accomplished track and cross-country athlete. His most beloved pastimes included gardening, reading, traveling with friends, and enjoying music. He also found great happiness in attending church with Eileen, singing along to the hymns with heartfelt enthusiasm.
His deep love for family was most evident in the way he interacted with his grandchildren. He would eagerly await them in the driveway in Ocean City, NJ to welcome their arrival. He beamed with excitement as he prepared to take them to the beach to collect shells and often mentioned he wanted his grandchildren to remember him this way. Every morning was made special with his custom pancakes, lovingly crafted into any shape they requested.
Ted will always be remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He had a natural talent for joking with others and could light up any room with his quick comebacks and clever remarks. His playful spirit and ability to make people laugh left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him, and his humor will be cherished as one of his most endearing qualities.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Lighthouse Hospice for their support, kindness, and care during the last few months.
Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia’s Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia , PA, 19111 on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 9:30 AM with Mass to follow at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
