Edwin T. Ferren III's Obituary
Edwin T. Ferren, III passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with his family at his side. Ed was 90 years old and a resident of Hainesport, NJ. Beloved husband of 24 years to Colleen M. (nee McGinnis) Ferren. Loving father of Edwin (Jane), Donna (John) Williams, Carol (Gary) Overman, Bryan (Sarah), Andrew (Roger), Kristin (Phil) Falzarano, Ann Marie Ferren and stepfather to Caitlyn (Billy Garwood) Atzinger. Ed graduated Merchantville HS in 1951, attending Gettysburg College where he joined the Army ROTC program, was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity and a 3-year letterman on the basketball team. Following graduation in 1955 he was commissioned and proudly served on active duty at Ft. Bliss, TX as a SAM officer. He continued in the Army Reserves until 1965 when he retired with the rank of Captain. He attended Rutgers Law School and was admitted to the NJ bar in 1959. He practiced for over 55 years in NJ with offices in Camden and Haddonfield. He was a member of the ABA as well as the Burlington, Camden and New Jersey Bar Associations. A lifetime golfer he enjoyed memberships at Merchantville, Tavistock, Atlantic City and Galloway National Country Clubs.
After retiring he and his wife Colleen owned and raced thoroughbred horses traveling up and down the eastern US watching their horses run. He followed sports all his life and got the most pleasure watching his children and grandchildren play sports, dance, sing, act in plays and other activities in high school and college.
When his 13-year-old daughter Ann Marie suffered a traumatic brain injury due to an auto accident, Ed and his family and friends started the Ann Ferren Golf Classic Charity raising over a million dollars to help other TBI victims and their families as well as medical research. He was incredibly proud of the work they all did to help people like his daughter Ann Marie.
