Eileen Millicent DeLisser's Obituary
Eileen Millicent Bowen DeLisser was born to the late Ethel May and Amos Bowen, on March 27, 1932 in the town of Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018 at her residence in Willingboro, New Jersey with her daughter June by her side.
Eileen was the first of the five Bowen children. The beloved sister of Logan Bowen, Winsome Nelson-Reed, Handel Bowen, and the late Genevieve Blackwell. Her siblings affectionately called her “Sister Leen.”
Eileen attended Manings High School and graduated with a Senior Cambridge Certificate. Eileen wanted to be a teacher like her mother, but her father wanted her to become a pharmacist. So Eileen, with determination, pursued pharmacy training and upon securing her license, began her career as a pharmacist at the Kingston Public Hospital and later at the York Pharmacy.
Eileen became a Seventh Day Adventist through meetings held at the Petersfled Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamaica. She was the first in her family to accept the Advent message. It was Eileen who introduced her brother Logan and her mother to the Advent message and as a result her mother and all four of her siblings joined the church.
Eileen married her husband Oswald DeLisser in August of 1956. The story is that Oswald and Eileen both worked at the Kingston Public Hospital. During his lunch, Oswald would stand under the open window where Eileen worked at the hospital pharmacy and whistle love-full songs to her. As we said it may just be a story…… From their union, Eileen and Oswald bore four wonderful children. She was the loving mother of Dr. Horace (Opal) DeLisser, June DeLisser, Dr. Lawton (Patrice) DeLisser, and Eleena DeLisser. Grandmother of Horace, Jr., Jason, Lawron, Shelby, Adam, and Eden, as well as great grandmother of Ethan, Nehamiah, and Jaden.
Eileens zeal for the Lord was matchless. With that same zeal she actively served the Lord as a member of the Burlington, Seventh Day Adventist church in New Jersey. Over the years she served in many positions as treasurer, Sabbath School teacher and superintendent, community service leader, and as an elder. Eileen was a committed leader. She was a faithful member of her church, a faithful friend, highly respected and loved by all.
Most notable of all, Eileen was blessed with the gift of encouragement. Always going out of her way to lift the spirits of those around her. Eileen was filled with joy to know that the Lord had used her to help someone and show them love.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eileen’s Life Celebration and viewing Thursday Eve 6-8 p.m at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North, and on Friday 9-10 a.m. at Mt. Holly Seventh-Day Adventist Church 700 Monmouth Road, Mt. Holly, NJ 08060. Her Funeral Service will begin at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Mausoleum.
