Elaine S. Wallenburg's Obituary
Wallenburg
Elaine Stephanie Wallenburg (nee Krop) passed away on November 16, 2017. Elaine was born in New York City on September 5. 1939. Elaine, called Lainie by her siblings, Marianne, Paul and Tommy, Mom-Mom by her children and grandchildren and Honey-Poo by her husband Max, of 55 years. She grew up attending a variety of public schools in several states as her father pursued his profession as a doctor of Pharmacology.
Her roots, though, were in Connecticut, where her parents were raised and her grandparents and cousins lived. She met Max at the Jersey Shore in 1961 and they were married a year later. She continued and completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees at Glassboro State College, now Rowan University. She then went on to get her Dr. in the Psychology of Reading from Temple University.
Her career encompassed several supervisory reading positions in Camden City and later as the Superintendent/Principal in Laurel Springs. Her first love was always the children she served and mentored. Her doctoral focus, in fact, was designed to help those youth who could most benefit from her expertise. Her heart was a helping, caring heart. Elaine was in many ways a model for other women who became educated, competed and worked in a world still dominated by men.
Her greatest gift though was her art. She was an active participant in a variety of statewide art competitions and has numerous blue ribbons to her credit. She was always a prominent member of the local art societies where she lived. Her contemporary murals graced the walls of classrooms and libraries where her children attended school.
Elaine was always active in her chosen church. She was a deacon and with others, she worked to bring the Good News and comfort to the homebound.
What was most significant was her unabashed and enormous love for her children Eric and Kristin, her grandchildren Tim, Chris, Katie, Jesse and Taylor and daughter-in-law, Lisa.
Her suffering and confusion is now done. She is survived by her husband, Max, children and grandchildren who will miss her as she has gone on to a better place. Friends are invited to the Celebration of Elaine’s life on Saturday December 9th, 1:00PM at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 630 Ye Greate St, Greenwich, NJ 08323 http://www.greenwichpresnj.org/
