Eric was a great guy. I met him when he was working at Gabi, I live a block away and it became me and my friend Jack's local place. We probably had dinner there once or twice a week. Eric was always so glad to see us. He made us special cocktails. After a few months, and many conversations at the bar, I invited him over to hang after work. One night he took me up on the offer and walked down to my loft at the corner. We listened to records and shared a drink with me and my friend Jack.
When covid struck I reached out to him to see if he needed anything.. we were all going through hell but I felt especially bad for my friends in the restaurant industry. Reluctantly he let me loan him $100. I told him not to worry about it. Many months passed and I suddenly received a $125 electronic payment from Eric. We texted back and forth and he came to hang out several times when he was living in Chinatown. At that point I was in big trouble with my business and going through tough times. Eric, on several occasions, brought Chinese food with him when he came to visit. He was so generous and kind.. I worried about him when he got into a scuffle and texted him every day seeing if he was ok. He was pretty banged up but I remember him telling me "this is nothing, you should've seen me in my skateboarding days"
He told me what a good friend I was and how grateful he was. He said things like that more times than I can remember. He was so sweet and kind. I know how close he was with his family and I can't imagine what you must be going through ... I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Godspeed my friend.
