Esther Virginia Lento (DiMezzo) born 1919 in Virginia has been a resident of Greater Philadelphia area all her life, including residing in the Frankford & Northeast sections of Philly, and in Moorestown, Mt. Laurel, Cinnaminson and Riverton in South Jersey.
Growing up in the Depression, she developed a strong work ethic and had a distinguished career in the ladies garment industry, first as a top rated seamstress and later as a floor supervisor. She was the oldest sibling of eight as the daughter of James & Dorothy (Mendello) DiMezzo; and is survived by two of her sisters Marie Catrambone and Pat Mayberry. She is also survived by her only child Esther (Sunnie) Johnson (Jerry), and two grandchildren Carl Albert Johnson and David Lorne Johnson and her great grandson Bruno. She is pre-deceased by her husband Albert Warren Lento, and her siblings Edith Koonze, James (Jimmy), Margaret (Peggy) Valiente, and Dorothy (Dolly) Hartman; and an infant child Patrick.
Esther was active in her early years as a vocalist, winning several local competitions, but unfortunately was not able to continue. On moving to South Jersey in her retirement, Esther was an active in the Moorestown Evergreen Senior Ladies Group, and acted as librarian. As she later participated in Delran?s Senior Care she became the volunteer greeter welcoming new attendees and acquainting them with the facility. Finally, during her stay at Riverview Estates Ester remained active in the many activities offered and her love of music once again shined.
Esther?s Life Celebration will be held at Snover-Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 N., on Wednesday from 7:00- 9:00pm and Thursday morning from 9:00-10:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo with interment at Beverly National Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Foundation for Cancer Research www.nfcr.org.
