Eva C. Burgess' Obituary
On the morning of September 24, 2020, Eva Burgess(nee Cunningham) left this world on the journey to be with our Heavenly Father. Born on the 1st of June in 1945, in Saint Joseph Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the parents of John Edward and Eva Grace Cunningham, she was raised in Camden, New Jersey and attended Camden City Elementary Schools. She went on to graduate, with high honors, from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Business High School in Camden, New Jersey. While in High School, she met her future husband while they both were sophomores. Eva was an exceptional student and a member of the National Honor Society. She attended San Bernardino Valley College while stationed with her husband in California.
In May 1964, Eva married Raymond who was serving in the United States Air Force. In January 1965, Eva gave birth to her first child, Raymond III at the USAF Hospital at Wurtsmith AFB. She traveled to Norton AFB, located in San Bernardino, California. Here, she gave birth to her second child, Eva Marie. A third child, Laura Lee was born in 1968 followed by a fourth, Kimberley Mary in November of 1974. Eva is survived by her husband of 56 years, Raymond J. Burgess, Jr. of Moorestown, New Jersey, a son, Raymond James Burgess III (Diane), of Delran, New Jersey; Daughter Eva Marie Pocius (Frank) of Cinnaminson, New Jersey; Daughter Laura Lee McRea (Juan) of York, Pennsylvania; and Daughter Kimberley Mary Pallotto (Norman) of Lumberton, New Jersey. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Raymond IV and Dana Renee Burgess of Delran, NJ, Giovanna and Olivia Pocius of Cinnaminson, NJ, Cecily and Celina McRae of York, Pa; Vincent, Joseph, and Roman Pallotto of Lumberton, NJ. Eva is also survived her brother Norman Cunningham(Sharon) of Rosman, NC. Eva was preceded in death by her dear brother, John Cunningham(Kathleen) of Hammonton, NJ. Eva was employed for several years as a Secretary for the President of Colonial National bank of Haddonfield. She also worked as the Secretary for United Jersey Bank in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She was employed for several years as a Legal Secretary for the Law Firm of Richmond, Berry, Ferren, Tyler, and Hollwieler of Haddonfield, New Jersey. She was also employed by ADP of Moorestown, New Jersey and Ryder Truck Rental of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She was active in Church and school activities, serving as Room Mother for her children’s classes at Christ the King School in Haddonfield, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Berlin, New Jersey, and with the Moorestown School System. Eva also gave her time to Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Maple Shade, New Jersey and Holy Cross High School of Delran, New Jersey. She was a Girl Scout Leader in Moorestown for many years and was a Den Moher for the Cub Scouts. Eva was a Life Member of the National Veterans of Foreign War. She was elected five times as President of the Samuel T. Lambert VFW Post 3020 Women’s Auxiliary of Delran, New Jersey. Eva loved her two Shiloh Shepherds: Storm of Stardust and Star Chaser, who protected her from harm and laid by her side. Eva was a fantastic wife and mother. She was, and always will be her husband’s sunrise and his sunset. He always said she was, “My girl.” They were blessed with trips to Hawaii, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and enjoyed the lights of Broadway. Eva seemed to always find time for everything, finding room to always accomplish more. Eva was a devout Catholic and member of the Parish of Saint Peter located in Merchantville, New Jersey. She loved her church and considered many parishioners to be like family. A Celebration of Eva’s life will be held at the Givnish Funeral Home in Maple Shade, NJ on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 6-8PM, and again on Thursday October 1, 2020 from 8:45-9:45AM. A Solemn Requiem Mass will take place on October 1st, 2020 at St. Peter RC Church starting at 10:30AM; followed by her entombment at the Mausoleum at New Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr, NJ.
