Evangelos Angelakos' Obituary
Angelakos, Evangelos T. (Van) MD, Ph.D.
of Cherry Hill, NJ passed away at the age of 83 on January 2, 2013. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Hegnauer) Angelakos and dear father of the late Theodore (Theo) Angelakos. Loving brother of Elsa Angelakou and Katarina Gounoropolou of Athens, Greece, and appreciative recipient of assistance provided by dedicated caregiver, Inge Gehousky. Dr.Angelakos was a native of Tripolis, Greece and he immigrated to the United States in 1948. Dr. Angelakos earned his Ph.D. degree in 1954 at Boston University School of Medicine in the Department of Physiology. He went on to earn his M.D. Degree from Harvard Medical School in 1959. Dr. Angelakos taught medical and graduate students in the School of Medicine at Boston University for several years. He conducted research in the field of cardiovascular medicine. In 1968 he accepted a position at the former Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now part of Drexel University) as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics where he taught medical and graduate students and continued his laboratory research in cardiovascular medicine. His research work has been widely published. At his resignation he was appointed Professor Emeritus of Physiology, Pharmacology and Medicine. In 1995 Dr. Angelakos accepted a position at Ross University School ofMedicine where he assumed the position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer. He retired from this position in 2003.Dr. Angelakos was a man of integrity, strength and compassion, and will be deeply missed.
