Evelyn Marie Doherty's Obituary
Evelyn Marie Doherty, of Southampton, NJ, passed away on January 3, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late James and Virginia (nee Checkley) Doherty, she was 84 years old.
Evie grew up with her family in Collingswood NJ, and was a graduate of the Class of 1959 from Collingswood High School. She immediately joined the working world in the banking industry, and had many jobs. Her passion, however became the love of computers, and she pursued a career in computer programming that saw her move across many industries as a software expert. This led her to pursue her dream of having her own business as a computer consultant that specialized in writing computer software and installing programs across the banking industry. This also fulfilled her love of traveling, as her contracts took her to various locations throughout the country.
Once retired, she found a home in Leisuretowne NJ to live and fell in love with the setting and community.
Evie became very active in both the Leisuretowne and Southampton communities. Her passion for the community led her to serve on the Southampton Zoning Board and School Board, as well as, the board of Trustees in Leisuretowne. Her proudest moment was being named Southhampton Person of the Year in 2019. Evie loved being a public advocate for the people of Leisuretowne and Southampton, and always wanted to do what was best for everyone. Her dogs Cuddles (deceased) and Chicklet were the loves of her life.
Evie was the beloved sister of James Doherty Jr. (deceased) (Patricia deceased), and Robert Doherty and his wife Hope. Cherished Aunt of Barbara Zambon (James), and James Doherty III (Diane), Kevin Doherty (Meghan), Maribeth Glezman (David), Kelliann Allen (Ben), and many great and great/great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, January 12th from 10:30 – 11:30 am at St. Mary’s of the Lakes Church, 40 Jackson Rd., Medford, NJ. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 am, followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery, 2398 W. Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
