Florana Sanon, of Willingboro, NJ passed away on January 10th of 2022.
Her passing is a shock to all, this moment in time is extremely surreal. Born in Jérémie, Haiti on December 5th of 1943, to Estene Sanon and Yvonne Alcindor, I’m sure upon her birth, her life was immediately dedicated to serving the Lord, wholeheartedly until her last breath. Her commitment to living a life of servitude was without a doubt relentless.
She came to America in the late sixties, Kennedy was President. Living in New York and working her 9 to 5, did not distract her from doing God's work.
In the early seventies, she became a missionary, (I told you, born to serve), Florana along with her missionary companions, traveled near and far spreading the word of God and providing all manners of help to those in need. From putting crusades together, handing out Bibles, because she wanted the word in everyone’s hand, clothing those in need, providing financial support for those who need medicine, help paying their medical bills, the work was never done.
In the seventies she married Yves Jilot, they were in the process of building a missionary home and had plans to retire, unfortunately Yves passed away a few years ago, halting, but not stopping the dream of building a missionary home. Her retirement continued in servitude, following in her Fathers footstep by preaching throughout the Region of Jérémie.
Florana was not a dreamer, but a person of action and determination. A dream, an expensive one at that, was to bring all of her family to the United States, as the honorary matriarch she rose up to the challenge and succeeded in her plans, of course with the help of the Lord (Amen, Amen, Amen).
In every home she lived in, there was a dedicated Chambre-haut-ten-el, equipped with the standard crisp white sheets, white covered cushions and a group of worshippers. Every Saturday morning praise and worship ensued, screams of Tau-gh and Amen, Amen, Amen, among other things, went on for hours, at least that’s what it felt like, to us kids.
People used to tease me for being like her, I didn’t like that at first. She was strong-willed, demanding, disciplined, hard on herself and everyone else around her, a force to be reckoned with. To some her actions and high-handedness may have been off putting, nobody is perfect, but when I think about it, her actions were out of love and wanting the best for those we love, being more than the status quo, striving for perfection because we descended from greatness.
She was a perfectionist, obsessed with cleanliness, but like the saying goes, Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Nana is Gone. But take comfort in the fact that she lived her life to the fullest, she lived out her dreams, she experienced life selflessly, she lived and will be greatly missed.

Brother Bruce Sanon, his wife Celei Michelle and his children, Pierre Daniel Sanon, Patricia Sanon, Brunia Chisolm, Joseph Michel, Jimmy Sanon, Alan Sanon, Betty Sanon and Marie Lensa, Marie Josie and her daughter Anna Belle; Brother Osmel Sanon, his wife and children Suzanne Ladouceur, her husband Emmanuel, Kesnel Sanon, Celei Sanon, Marie Ange, Wagler Pierre and 10 grandchildren; Sister Marie Enite Sanon and nephew Patrick Sanon and his wife Evelyn (maiden name) Sanon, and 3 grand nieces; Sister, Aulane Sanon and her children Kathleen Apollon Ferron, Edward Apollon, Marsha Apollon Sansculotte, Jennyfer Apollon and Jonathon Apollon,10 grandnieces/nephews and 2 great grand nephews; Sister Joslene Sanon and her children Johanna Naomi, Vicent and 5 grandchildren; Brother Frantz Jean Sanon and his children, Sandy Sanon Coltherst, Richard Sanon, Keiser and 2 grand nephews; Sister Cerette Sanon and her children; Sister Nadia Sanon and her children Sebastian Sanon and Cynthia Sanon, 1 grand nephews; Sister Ester Sanon; Loudes Sanon and family; Paul Sanon and family; Mona Gabrielle, her son Paul Gabrielle and family; Aloude Laurent and Family; and extended family, missionary family and numerous friends whom she loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Saturday, January 22nd, from 8 am to 10 am. Her service will begin at 10 am, followed by entombment in Lakeview Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cinnaminson, NJ. Masks are required, and we ask that social distancing to practiced.
