Frederick H. Pond, Jr.'s Obituary
Frederick H. Pond, Jr., of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023. He was 90 years old.
Fred was born in 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Frederick and Beatrice (nee Swartz) Pond. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1950 and went on to attend Bucknell University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Bucknell, Fred was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. After college, Fred worked for Gulf Oil for six years. During this time, he also spent two years in the Army, stationed in Burlington, NC. Fred moved to Medford Lakes in 1959 and worked for Brick Homes for over 10 years. He then went on to start his own custom home-building company, Pond & Spitz, in 1975. Fred was honored to have his company chosen as South Jersey Builder of the Year in 1988. He loved building homes for people and continued this passion until his retirement in 1997.
Fred lived for many years in Easton, Maryland where he was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed golfing, photography, boating, and tinkering in the basement. Fred was Fleet Captain of the Miles River Sail & Power Squadron, as well as the Poplar Island Yacht Club, ultimately becoming Commodore. However, his greatest joy was found in hosting the annual Family Reunions for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, where many special times and wonderful memories were shared by all. In 2015, Fred returned to New Jersey and lived at Medford Leas Retirement Community, where he sang in the choir and enjoyed playing the piano for his friends and neighbors. His quick wit, fun sense of humor, and pleasant disposition will always be remembered.
Fred was the beloved husband of Sharon Marie Pond, who passed in 2008, and Marilyn Louise Pond, who passed in 1977; loving father of Karen Marva (Mark), Gary Pond (Donna), Gregg Pond (Tammy), Laura Rhoads (Rodney), and Mark Pond (Christina); cherished Grandpa of Craig Marva (Crystal), Jessica Boyd (Joseph), Tyler Marva (Aimee), Rebecca Schlener (Jared), Rachel White, Amanda Kennedy (Connor), Emily Pond, Ryan Rhoads, Nicole Rhoads, Kayla Rhoads, Leanna Pond, and Megan Pond; Great-Grandpa of Caroline, Claire, Emily, Nate, Madison, Aiden, Eva, Jason, Max, Troy, Chase, and baby Cameron, who is on the way.
