Gavin Anthony Turner's Obituary
CELEBRATION OF LIFE
Gavin Anthony Turner, known to many as Boyo departed this earth on Friday, June 12, 2020, two days shy of his 56th birthday. He was born in Linden Guyana on June 14th, 1964, to Patrick Turner and the late Waveney Adams-Turner.
Gavin spent his early childhood in Half Mile, Linden, Guyana where he attended the Wismar Hill Primary/Secondary School. Being born a genius, he was a self-taught electrician, spending most of his days in his workshop “the Band” where he crafted his skills. He was the respected electrician in the neighborhood. He also taught himself music, playing the guitar and the piano. In Linden, he invented the first telephone called the Walkie-Talkie and the first home security system, just to mention a couple.
In 1985 Gavin migrated to the United States of America, and resided in Brooklyn, New York. Shortly thereafter, he started working as an Electrician for Kawasaki. During his tenure at Kawasaki he was recruited twice to work on the 1st High Speed Trains in Japan, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. In 1990, he was then hired by MTA Long Island Railroad where he spent the last 30 years of his career.
In 2006 Gavin relocated his family to New Jersey. There he continued being a very free spirited, loving and passionate soul. He shared his love for music with everyone he encountered. He called himself DJ Boyo, hosting Karaoke as often as he can. Gavin was also the go-to man in the family. If you need to know “ask Boyo.” He was a great storyteller. He was passionate about his work and politics, ready to engage in a spirited argument with anyone who dares to challenge him. He was a founding member of MOSIL. He was also a very active on social media.
Gavin is survived by his wife, Yvette Chapman-Turner, Children: Brooke, Debra and Folasade Turner, Grandchildren: Andrew and Azaiah Henry, Godson: Tahir Roethof, Father: Patrick Turner, Father-In-Law: Eustice Chapman; Brothers: O’Neil, Neville and Devon; Sisters: Denise, Jacqueline, Ulee, Alexis and Simone; In-laws Michelle, Ian, Kenneth, Gordon, Esther, Luke, Delyse, Althea, Dionne, Eustace, Corrine, Shellon, Earla, Mark, Obettie, Angelica, Toussaint, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
