George W Washington Jr's Obituary
George W. Washington, Jr. was born in Philadelphia on January 21st, 1943, to the marital union of the late George W. Washington, Sr. and the late Gladys Elizabeth Washington (nee Brown). As a child and youth, George had many talents and interests such as dancing, drawing, and boxing. George attended Germantown High School. He was baptized at Polite Temple Baptist Church, Germantown, PA in 1952.
George joined the Army, working in the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry, as a Light Weapons Infantryman, from 1962 to 1964. While in the military and stationed in Germany, he met and married Monika Washington. This union produced a daughter, Petra. George opened the first black owned business in Germany. It was a night club called Afro Soul. He received a special permit to open the business because of his exceptional command of the German language. George then joined the Airforce where he served as an Inventory Management Specialist from 1971 to 1975. Upon leaving the service, George continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering 3D/2D Design Drafting and went on to get a Master of Science Degree in Laboratory Technology, and Advanced General Dental Practice. George, for a time, had a practice in which he made dentures. Upon closing his practice, he went on to teach drafting at the high school and collegiate levels. Around this time, George was fortunate enough to meet his significant other, Nancy Dillard, who remained by his side through the rest of his life. George loved teaching and also taught other subjects for grades K-12 and taught at summer camps. He retired from the Delran, New Jersey School System and then continued to work as a substitute teacher when needed.
George was known to have a strong but charming personality. He was affectionately known as “Candy” by family and friends. He wanted to live life on his own terms and did just that. Additionally, he was a very good dresser and took a lot of pride in his appearance. He loved to dance and was a phenomenal dancer. George was youthful, energetic, and physically fit. His passion was yachting. He had a lifelong dream of owning a yacht. He was finally able to fulfill his dream and obtained a 36 foot yacht of his own upon retiring. He spent much of his time navigating his yacht and traveling up and down the coastline. Yachting brought him a lot of joy and he loved to entertain his family and friends on his yacht.
George departed this earth on July 8th, of 2024, at the age of 81, after a lengthy illness. George was predeceased by his loving parents George W. Washington, Sr., Gladys Elizabeth Richardson, and Step-father James Richardson; Sisters Ethel Forrest and Romona Jones; and brother Alexander Washington. George leaves to mourn: his daughter, Petra Randall; step-daughter Patricia Kleinlein; Significant Other Nancy Dillard; Grandchildren Keishia Jackson and Latona Randall-Tsang (Chui), Brothers Marcus Washington (Anne) and Lloyd Washington (Shirley); Step-Brother Lafayette Richardson (Sheira); Great Grandchildren Aiden Tsang, Matthew Jackson, Audrianna Tsang, Alexander Tsang; a host of nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday July 20th, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Givnish Funeral Home of Cinnaminson. Located at 1200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ, 08077. Immediately following the viewing there will be a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
