Geraldine A. Barsocchi's Obituary
Geraldine A. Barsocchi (nee Murphy) passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at her residence in Delran, NJ. Born in Astoria, Queens, NY to the late Eugene and Agnes Murphy. Gerry was 87 years old.
Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Alfred T. Barsocchi, loving mother of Alfred J., Janet (Frank) Chiacchio, Pamela (John) Carey, Michael (Helen) and Gene (Jessica). Devoted Grandma Gerry (aka Gigi), to Jacqueline Lambert (Christopher), Caroline Carey, Nicholas Chiacchio, and Nicole and Kristen Barsocchi and Noah Barsocchi.
Geraldine was predeceased by her brother, John Murphy and her sister Mary (nee Murphy) Helmes.
Gerry is also survived by her nieces and nephews, their spouses (and children) who loved her beyond measure: Edward Helmes, Kathy Muth (Rich), Maryann Joray (Don), Jimmy Helmes (Nancy), John Helmes (Lori), and John Murphy (Liz).
She was also predeceased by many dear friends, too many to list. Gerry was so good at maintaining her treasured relationships and with zero social media! Of those that remain, all are life long and so special and include Joanie H (No. Jersey), Barbara P, Irene R, Maureen E (Long Island), and Sally R (WI). We are sorry for any we missed, as there were many. In NJ, she is survived by a very dear friend and requires a special “shout out” to Maureen O. We all know what a tremendous loss this is for her, too. Together, Maureen and Gerry shared fun and frolics (age did not deter them) shopping, dining and enjoying a good Manhattan and Martini.
Gerry and Al left Queens, NY in 1963 to begin their new life in Cinnaminson, NJ, later moving to Delran, NJ. After retirement, Gerry and Al spent many years, as snowbirds, at their residence, in Seminole, FL and eventually returned back (full-time) to Delran, NJ.
Gerry lived simply and simply lived life to the fullest. While life was not without suffering, trial, and tribulation, she would say, “she was blessed beyond measure”. She had a strong faith.
Gerry was a full-time secretary at Temple Sinai, Cinnaminson, for 20 years. It may seem odd as a Catholic to be a Rabbi’s secretary, however, Gerry relished the time spent with the congregants and gaining a deeper understanding of their faith.
While successfully raising her 5 children, with her devoted spouse, she was also a caregiver to her aged parents and later her father-in-law…all during a time where she was working full time. She was a wise soul who was always there when you needed her. She had a “PhD” in life and really understood human nature. She always seemed to know the right thing to say. She was a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, January 8th from 6-8pm and Tuesday, January 9th from 8:30-9:30am at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North. Cinnaminson, NJ 08077. Her funeral Mass will follow at 10:00am at St. Peter Church in Merchantville, NJ. Internment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s School 51 W. Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ 08109 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. To share your memories of Gerry, please visit www.givnish.com.
