Gertrude Lanni's Obituary
Gertrude Olivia (Seiffert) Lanni, former nurse and mother of 5, died at 87 years of age on February 18, 2016. Mrs. Lanni was born in Mt. Vernon, NY on April 11, 1928, the only daughter and second youngest child of Rudolph and Esther Laine (Hämäläinen) Seiffert. She attended Holyoke High School (1945) and graduated in 1948 from Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as part of the US Cadet Nursing Corps. After graduation, she took advanced courses in surgical nursing at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and moved to Texas to work in orthopedic surgery. While in Texas, she met her future husband, Ralph Lanni, and was married in 1957 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tuscon, Arizona. Through the years, she moved her family between CA, NY and FL due to her husband’s engineering career, ultimately settling in Cinnaminson, NJ. She was a voracious reader, expert crossword puzzle solver and possessed a relentlessly inquisitive mind. In later years, she was a volunteer and Recording Secretary for the Deborah Hospital Foundation, raising funds for their numerous campaigns. Mrs. Lanni was the proud mother of five children, MJ Lanni (David Cradit) of Vallejo, CA (USN Ret.), Joseph Lanni (Pam) of Centerville, OH (USAF Ret.), Arthur (Ruth) Lanni of Cary, NC, John (Christine) Lanni, PE, of Surf City, NJ, Susan (Vince Alaimo) Lanni, MD of Montpelier, VA. and eight grandchildren, Nicole, Kyle, Johnita, Caitlin, Hannah, Noah, Michaela and Asher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, parents, brothers Gerald, Arthur, Edwin and Theodore and grandson Noah. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Saturday February 27, 2016 from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. at Snover/Givnish Funeral Home of Cinnaminson, 1200 Rte. 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cinnaminson Public Library c/o Burlington County Library System, Attention: Director, Ranjna Das, 5 Pioneer Boulevard, Westampton, NJ 08060.
