GLORIA MARIA ROSARIO RODRIGUEZ
(1931 – 2022)
En el año 1931, Carlota Rodríguez y Eustaquio Rosario recibieron como regalo de Navidad a la que sería la menor de sus hijas. Nació el 24 de diciembre en Luquillo, Puerto Rico, y la llamaron Gloria María. Se unió a sus hermanos que ya formaban parte de la familia Rosario-Rodríguez: Ramo, Mariana (Mayán), Eliseo, Celestino (Celín), Elida (Lila), Carmen Ilsia, Martina (Ludin). Cuatro años más tarde nació el menor de todos los hermanos: Ángel Luis (Guiso). De todos estos, sobrevive su hermana Ludin.
Gloria, como siempre fue llamada, fue una soñadora, apasionada, siempre pensó en grande. Pensaba que no había límites si lo que se anhelaba se le ponía pasión y determinación. Obtuvo su grado de normal en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, lo que la preparó para ser maestra de primaria. Desde entonces demostró su pasión por la enseñanza y educación. Trabajo un tiempo como maestra en Puerto Rico y luego se mudó a la ciudad de New York para continuar estudios en esa educación. Prosiguió sus estudios mientras trabajaba como maestra y continuó ampliando su conocimiento obteniendo dos grados de Maestría en áreas relacionadas con la educación. Amaba lo que hacía y amaba a los niños. Nunca tuvo hijos biológicos, pero transmitió todo ese amor a sus estudiantes (que aun la recuerdan con mucho cariño y admiración) y a la familia que le rodeaba, en especial, a sus sobrinos. A estos les contagió con otra de sus pasiones: las artes. Era amante de todo lo relacionado al arte; disfrutaba mucho de los musicales de Broadway, la ópera, el ballet, los museos, la música. No había género musical que ella no tuviese una colección de música. Era amante de la buena música. Gustaba también de viajar y conocer otros pueblos y otras culturas.
Gloria fue una excelente hija, excelente hermana y excelente tía. Su cariño y amor hacia su familia siempre lo demostró teniendo cuidado de su madre, su padre y de sus hermanas y hermanos y consintiendo y protegiendo a sus sobrinos. Las puertas de su hogar siempre estuvieron abiertas para recibir a su familia y a sus sobrinos en vacaciones, los que llevaba de paseo por la ciudad de New York porque ya cuando llegaban a su hogar, ella tenía preparado el itinerario de los paseos. Estaba pendiente de todo detalle, velaba porque su familia no tuviese alguna necesidad que ella no pudiese cubrir. Así fue Gloria: dadivosa, generosa, cariñosa, con un gran sentido del humor, pero firme, recta y determinada cuando era necesario.
Fue muy querida por sus vecinos y sus compañeros de hogar en sus últimos meses en New Jersey. Cuando se le visitaba allí, siempre recibía a su visita con un “Aleluya”. Ya no recibirá más visitas porque es momento de despedida. Nos despedimos por un tiempo con un gran “Aleluya” por una vida plena, por haber vivido como siempre soñó y anheló, y haber dejado huellas difíciles de borrar. Gloria se despidió de su familia en su hogar en New York donde vivió por alrededor de 50 años el 6 de junio de 2022. Hasta siempre, Gloria. ¡Aleluya!
In 1931, Carlota Rodríguez and Eustaquio Rosario received as a Christmas gift what would be the youngest of their daughters. She was born on December 24 in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and was called, Gloria Maria. She joined his siblings who were already part of the Rosario-Rodríguez family: Ramo, Mariana (Mayán), Eliseo, Celestino (Celín), Elida (Lila), Carmen Ilsia, Martina (Ludin). Four years later, the youngest of all was born and they called him Ángel Luis (Guiso). Only Martina (Ludin) survives.
Gloria, as she was always called, was a dreamer, and a passionate person, always thinking big. Her thoughts were that there are no limits if there is passion and determination. She obtained her associate degree in education at the University of Puerto Rico, which qualified her to be a primary school teacher. Since then she demonstrated her passion for teaching and education. She worked as a teacher in Puerto Rico, but then moved to New York City to continue her studies in education. In New York, she continued studying while working as a teacher and continued to expand her knowledge by obtaining two Master's degrees in education. She loved what she did and she loved children. Although she never had biological children, she gave all that love to her students (who still remember her with great affection and admiration) and to the family around her, especially her nieces and nephews. To these she transmitted another of her passions: the arts. She was a fine arts lover; she really enjoyed Broadway musicals, the opera, the ballet, museums and music. There was no musical genre that she didn't have a fine collection. She really enjoyed good music. She also loved to travel and study other cultures.
Gloria was an excellent daughter, excellent sister and excellent aunt. Her affection and love for her family were evident, always taking care of her mother, her father and siblings and consenting and protecting her nieces and nephews. The doors of her home were always open to receive her family and her nieces and nephews on vacation, which she always took on a tour through New York City. When they arrived at her home, the itinerary was already prepared. She took care of every detail, being sure that her family did not have any need that she could not cover. She was like that: generous, loving, with a great sense of humor, determined and firm when necessary.
She was much loved by her neighbors and her housemates in her last months of life in New Jersey. She used to receive her visitors with a "Hallelujah", meaning she was glad to see them. She will no longer receive visitors, it is time to say goodbye for a little while. Today we say goodbye with a great "Hallelujah" for a full life, for having lived as she always dreamed and longed for, and for having left traces difficult to erase. Gloria said goodbye to her family at her home in New York where she lived for about 50 years on June 6, 2022. Forever, Gloria. Hallelujah!
