Gloria P. Williamson's Obituary
Gloria P. Williamson was the eighth of thirteen children. Gloria departed this life peacefully on Sunday November 13, 2016 to her final rest.
Gloria and her twin brother were born in Portsmouth, VA. She attended both parochial and public schools and graduated with honors from Norcom High School.
She continued her education at Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in Petersburg, VA, where she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. During her last semester at Virginia State, she also met her future husband, Robert Williamson. After graduation from college, Gloria moved to Brooklyn, NY and was employed by the Department of Hospital Collections and late by the Department of Social Welfare as an Investigator.
With her parents’ blessing, Gloria and Robert, who was serving in the military, married. Shortly thereafter, Gloria resigned her employment to travel with her husband and to raise a family. To this union, three daughters, Jacquelyn (deceased), Robin, and Gayle were born.
While the children were very young, the family settled in New Jersey and made this their permanent residence. The family was invited to attend and became members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Cinnaminson, NJ, where Gloria continued her membership. Gloria was ordained as a Deacon on June 14, 1981, and has served on the Mission Team, attended worship services, bible study, and other activities until her health began to fail.
Throughout her life, Gloria has paticipated in activities to help others, e.g. Girl Scouts, Red Cross, sorority, Federated Women's Club Ebonettes, church activities, and many others. Gloria has always had a positive outlook on life, was friendly, religious, and interested in helping others. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for seventy years. She was Golden Soror and Life Member, who remained an active member of the Theta Pi Omega Chapter.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Robert Williamson, two daughters, Robin and Gayle Williamson, one twin brother, Winston Pearson of VA, two sisters, Bernice Vaughn of VA and Maud Green of CA, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of in-laws and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gloria’s Life Celebration and Viewing Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Covenant Presbyterian Church 2618 New Albany Road Cinnaminson. During 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. There will be a sorority memorial service, all are welcome to attend, however, during this time the doors will be closed to entrance or exit. The Funeral Service will commence at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
