Hugh served in the Merchant Marines during World War II as a radio operator traveling the world aboard ship. He started his career as a professional photographer and the love of taking pictures continued throughout his life. Afterwards he moved into automotive sales and management, spending his formative years at Berglund Motor Company before joining the Holman Automotive Group. There, he enjoyed many years of success and established lasting friendships. He had a lifelong love of music including opera, Broadway musicals, and tunes popular to his generation. He had a real passion for auto racing, especially Indy car and Formula 1. His love of sports spilled over into baseball, football, and golf.
First and foremost in his life was his love for his wife, Mary. They celebrated 76 years of marriage in April 2024. They embraced living life to the fullest. Their family holidays were filled with fun at the “Jersey” shore, sports car rallies and racing events, as well as trips to NYC. Bermuda and Las Vegas were also favorite vacation destinations.
His love of the “Jersey” shore began as a child with trips to Cape May with his grandparents. When he was 18, he was proud to serve as a lifeguard in Wildwood Crest. Once married, Long Beach Island became the family vacation spot where they created many memories with family and friends. Later on, Wildwood Crest became the new family favorite.
