Hugh "Pat" McKenna's Obituary
Hugh Patrick "Pat" McKenna, aged 88, peacefully passed away on September 15, 2023, in Voorhees, NJ. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Hugh and Susan Clare McKenna. Pat was a devoted husband for 64 years to Patricia Ann McKenna (nee Cranmer) and a loving father to Deborah Glass (Michael) and the late Robert Patrick McKenna. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Elyssa, Eric, Shannon, and Robert, and as a great grandfather to Rylee. Pat was preceded in death by his siblings Claire Connor, Catherine Zurinski, and Edward McKenna, but leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins both in the United States and Northern Ireland, and a wide circle of friends.
Pat began his career as a Freight Conductor on New Jersey railroads before an injury led to his retirement. However, retirement was far from the end of his adventures. He took up flying and would often take his wife Patricia on breakfast trips from the Flying W airport in Medford to Wilmington, Delaware. Subsequently, he pursued various interests, becoming a locksmith, volunteering as a firefighter, and working as a security guard. He loved taking his family on vacations with his RV. He traversed the United States stopping in national parks and other points of interest throughout the years. During his time in Port Orange, FL, Pat relished his daily 3-mile walks. Pat was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team and looked forward to watching every game. Those who knew him can attest to his exceptional sense of humor, and Pat retained his wit and sense of humor until the very end.
A graveside service to honor Pat's memory will be held on Friday, October 20th at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellmawr, NJ at 10:30am and will be live streamed on the following link:
