James S. Armstrong, M.D.'s Obituary
James S. Armstrong, M.D. 92, of Moorestown, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Born in Bellaghy, Northern Ireland to the late Samuel and Rose Armstrong. Devoted husband to his late wife, June Armstrong of 63 years. Dear father to Shelley Stricker (Edward), James Mark Armstrong M.D. (Sarah), Laura Armstrong Leder, and Scott Armstrong (Ellen). Loving grandfather to Erik Stricker, Paige Owen, William Armstrong, Hannah Armstrong, Caroline Armstrong, Alexander Leder, Katherine Leder, Drew Armstrong, Quinn Armstrong and Sawyer Armstrong. Predeceased by his brother, Joseph Armstrong, and sisters, May Campbell, Margaret Getty, and Evelyn Stirling.
While training as a physician at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, James met his beautiful wife, June, at a dance. They married and immigrated to the U.S. in 1959. James became the Chief of Anesthesiology at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia in 1963. He later moved on to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, NJ where he was the Chief of Anesthesiology for over 20 years before retiring in 1996. James was a wonderful father and doctor. He and his family traveled often back to Ireland to visit family. James loved the Eagles, the 76ers and golf.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Rd. Moorestown, NJ. 08057 on Saturday, September 7th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, address above, in James’s memory.
