James Doherty's Obituary
James Robert ?Doc? Doherty, Jr. a resident of Moorestown for 16 years, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. An avid hunter and fisherman, author, and renowned collector of decoys, clocks, glass, and other historical artifacts, Jim was raised in Philadelphia, PA, resided in Collingswood and Cherry Hill, and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Vaughan) for 53 years, loving father of Barbara Zambon (Jim) of Medford and James R. III (Diane) of Moorestown. Dear grandfather of James Ryan, Caitlin, Keira Anne, Patric, and William. Brother of Robert Doherty (Hope) and Evelyn Doherty, and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
A genuine entrepreneur, Jim began his career working for his father at Food Fair, was the sales manager at Westvaco, and started Premier Packaging, working with pharmaceutical companies in packaging and packaging design. In 1991, Jim purchased and became the owner and CEO of Weber Display & Packaging of Philadelphia, PA, winning 1992 Philadelphia Manufacturer of the Year and growing the company to 140 employees.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Collingswood High School, where he developed his passion for football and subsequently coached Oaklyn youth football. A lover of knowledge and education, he graduated from Temple University with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1965 and an MBA in 1969. Founder and 1976 President of the South Jersey Chapter 93 of the NAWCC, 1995 Old Time Barnegat Bay Decoy Collector of the Year, and shareholder in The Library Company of Philadelphia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jim?s life and accomplishments at Snover/Givnish Funeral Home of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Monday from 6PM to 9PM and Tuesday from 9AM to 10AM. His funeral Mass will follow at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, 42 W. Main St., Moorestown. Entombment will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jim?s favorite of many personal causes ? Philabundence, American Diabetes Association of Philadelphia, The Ward Museum of Wildfoul Art (www.wardmuseum.org), and/or the Tuckerton Seaport and Bayman?s Museum (www.tuckertonseaport.org).
