John And Mary Harper
We remember when Doc, as he was known in Assumption, opened his new office in our neighborhood. He had a hunting dog named Josey (Josie) and they would walk over to our house and visit on the front porch. We had a vegetable garden and Josie loved red and green tomatoes. Doc would set one of each beside him and Josie would put her nose a hairs width from them but she wouldn’t bite them until Doc would break into his conversation with us by saying “OK Josie” and the tomato was gone in one bite. Doc had her trained very well. He had a horse tank behind his business when he cared for horses and he would throw a tennis ball in the tank and upon command Josie would run and dive in the tank and return it to Doc. We missed Josie when she passed away but not near as much as we will miss Doc. He always waved to us when he saw us outside. We loved his soft voice and sideways smile. Our deepest sympathy to Lynn and Katie and Michael. Doc adored his family and spoke of them fondly and proudly. As a business man Assumption has lost a great asset to the community and surrounding towns. We can’t remember for sure but thinking back we think he came to Assumption the latter part of the 1970s or early 1980s. We won’t say goodbye but always hold you in our memories - they are all good ones. Butch and Mary Harper
