Jane T. Rittenburg's Obituary
Jane Teresa Rittenburg, of Evesham, NJ, passed away on March 6, 2025. She was 73 years old.
Jane was born in the Bronx to an Irish immigrant family of firemen and police officers, but she mostly grew up in upstate NY in Blooming Grove where her mother, Louise, was born and raised. She shared a three-bedroom house above Tomahawk Lake with her parents and three older brothers. She took advantage of the rural area, enjoying long walks in the woods, swimming and ice skating, but her great love was horses. She bought her own horse Tucker and taught horseback riding, led trail rides and was even photographed for a national ad campaign. Jane excelled in high school where she was a cheerleader and earned the New York State Regent scholarship. She attended the College of Mount St Vincent, where she studied Science with a minor in teaching and continued to cheer for the West Point football team.
Jane met Charles, her husband of 52 years, through mutual friends at West Point and they were married at the West Point Cadet Chapel on June 9th, 1973. Charles and Jane raised three daughters and a son, living all over the United States and internationally while Charles served in the US Army and later as an Aerospace Engineer. Jane often bragged that she had moved 32 times in just 30 years of marriage.
A self-proclaimed quiltaholic and birdophile, Jane loved quilting, cross stitch, needle point, crewel, embroidery, and applique. She earned honors in county fairs all over the United States for her crafts. She was particularly proud of her contributions to active-duty service members and veterans through her yellow ribbon work sewing, filling, and sending over 1000 care packages and over 6,000 water absorbent neck coolers to deployed service members and through quilts that she donated to wounded veterans through the Quilts of Valor organization. Jane was also an avid baker and loved to cook for her family, making elaborate cakes for her children’s birthdays.
Jane was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and had been a member of the American Red Cross, the Honeybee Quilters Guild and a founding member of the Desert Grace Christian Church.
Jane was predeceased by her parents Edward and Louise Carmody, her brothers John J. Carmody and Joseph P. Carmody Sr. and her sister-in-law Elizabeth A. Roberts.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles E. Rittenburg, her brother Edward O. (Terri) Carmody Jr, her in-laws Francine L. Carmody, Diane A. Carmody, Thomas J. (Mary Ann) Rittenburg, and William H. Rittenburg. Jane is also survived by her children Julie A. Rittenburg, Elizabeth M. (Matt) Filip, Charles E. (Kari) Rittenburg Jr, Rebecca J. (Steve) Richardson, Maria Louisa (Isa) Figueiredo Quelhas and her husband Jose Eduardo, as well as her grandchildren David, Jonathan, Luke and Margaret Filip, Andrew and Katherine Richardson, and James and Ryan Rittenburg.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Marlton, 398 East Main Street, on Monday, March 17th from 10:00am to 11:00am. A funeral ceremony will begin at 11am, followed by interment in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ.
