Jean Shirley Markovitz's Obituary
Jean Shirley Markovitz (nee Stickney), of Palmyra, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023. Born in Stoughton, Massachusetts to the late Charles and Hazel (nee Winship) Stickney, she was 95 years old. Jean was predeceased by her sister Judith Stickney.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Bernard Markovitz; loving mother of Priscilla Applegate
(Dr. James), Charles Markovitz (Debora), and Douglas Markovitz; cherished Gramma of
Alexander Applegate (Leanna) and Benjamin Applegate (Monnique); Great Gramma of
Rhiannon and Rowan Applegate.
Jean graduated from Philadelphia College of Art and was inducted into the American Watercolor Society.
She was a 50+ year member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverton. Jean loved cats and was an avid reader. She was a volunteer, then a long-term Assistant Librarian and Trustee for the Riverton Public Library. Jean demonstrated her great eye for color and design in the many quilts she made with multiple quilting groups over the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Friday May 19th from 10 am to 11 am. Service will begin at 11 am, followed by interment in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
