Jeanne Schpok Collins' Obituary
Dr. Jeanne Schpok Collins, (nee Cosgrove), age 80, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017 at her home in Merchantville, NJ. Born May 21, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, she was a compassionate person, touching many with her enthusiasm, dedication, and encouragement.
Dr. Collins was a Registered Nurse holding degrees from the University of Michigan (B.S., 1959), the University of Pennsylvania (M.S., 1976), and the International Graduate School (EdD, 1988). Working as a head nurse at The Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital she always advocated for patient-centered care and innovative nursing approaches. She joined the faculty of Frankford Hospital School of Nursing (now Aria Health School of Nursing) in the late 1970's and retired as Dean of Student Affairs in 1998. In retirement, she was an active member of The Porch Club in Riverton, NJ and the Evening Membership Division of the Women's Club of NJ. She was also an active voice in Merchantville, NJ advocating for affordable housing and working as Distribution Manager of the Merchantville Observer. She was Director of the Sunday Youth Program at the Center for Conscious Living in Moorestown, NJ and later became a founding Board of Trustee member of New Thought Philadelphia.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Glenn Collins, her loving children: Katherine Schpok, David (Linda) Schpok , and Kendra Schpok (Matthew Kohler); the father of her children, Irwin Schpok (Barbara Daly-Schpok); her stepchildren Shannon Collins and Gwen Rittenberry; her loving grandchildren: Crystal Collins (Sarah Bellum Collins), Elizabeth Schpok, Beckett Schpok, James Schpok, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother Laurence Cosgrove and pre-deceased by her parents Hugh and Charlene (Plague) Cosgrove, brother Hugh Cosgrove, Jr., and sister Judy Lindley.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Life Celebrate on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Givnish Funeral Home, 600 East Main Street, Maple Shade, NJ 08052.
